Gur prices fell sharply on the wholesale grain market on Tuesday despite the fact that rates should go up due to strong demand by consumers, dealers said. On the cereals side, Gur, which is in demand during the winter season as people make delicious food items, but this year poor economic condition not allowing them to avail the opportunity.

The foods, cooked with different ingredients, included Gur, are very popular, particularly among children and elders, they said. Anyhow, on the cereals side, it (Gur) low type lost Rs 200 to Rs 4800 and fine variety was down by Rs 500 to Rs 5000, they said.

On the grams side, yellow peas Canada gained Rs 59 to Rs 4400-4600, yellow peas Dall Canada also picked up the amount to Rs 4900-5100, other items were unchanged due to balanced demand and supply position, Guwar after maintaining a stable trend, lost steeply by Rs 500 to Rs 12500-13500, they said. On the rice sector, Irri-6 Sindh low type was inert at Rs 3180 while the best quality was up by Rs 25 to Rs 3225, they said. On the seeds side, cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh (low) were unchanged at Rs 400-500, while the cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh (New) interior type was down by Rs 50 to Rs 850 and the fine type also lost Rs 100 Rs 900 due to falling demand, they said.
